Discoveries of a Bon Vivant
A Bon Vivant
“I am what can be best described a Bon Vivant, a sociable person who enjoys the company of friends with good food and drink.”
I have always considered my role in the world of wine as a vocation, rather than just jobs. Professionally speaking, wine is my passion. During my career that now spans five decades, I had the privilege of being involved in all aspects of the wine trade. I got to travel to all major wine producing and consuming markets in the world, and in the process met a plethora of amazing people that shared my love of wine. To us, wine is life.
It has already been a fantastic road of discovery, and I hope that I can continue that path for some time, because this road of discovery never ends. It also occurred to me that as we expand our knowledge of wine, it is easy to get to wrapped up in the many technical aspects of wine and its characteristics that are not always easy to explain. And as consumers, do we really need to concern ourselves with the aspect of the vineyard, the mineral tension of the wine, the middle palate, the underlying complexity, etc.? Wine does not want to be rated, judged, or analyzed to death. It simply wants to be enjoyed.
I am what can be best described a Bon Vivant, a sociable person who enjoys the company of friends with good food and drink. In my experience, wine is best suited to create the ideal setting for an enjoyable get-together of people. Sometimes this can be a round of strangers that during the course of the social experience can become friends. Wine consumed in moderation has that ability.
Based on our “Roots Matter Philosophy”, we have procured a portfolio of singular wines, crafted by growers who go about their vocation with skill and integrity. They all share an incredible amount of passion for their land and family traditions. Whenever I host a tasting event, I encourage the participants to let their own palate be their guide as to whether they like a particular wine or not. We all enjoy different things, different colours, different flavours. This is another fascinating aspect of the world of wine produced by people with integrity – it offers a great selection of wonderful choices.
I am always happy to answer any technical question that may come to mind. I do not believe in the rating system for wines. I look for wines that meet the standards of our philosophy, are without faults, and that provide a harmonious taste experience. My main goal is to tell the stories of the growers and the birthplaces of the wines in our portfolio. I would be happy if I can share with you the experiences that I was privileged to along my road of discovery of a Bon Vivant.
Cheers!
